Facebook has taken another strict step. This time the action taken is against the nuisance that fake news create on social network. Facebook has decided that it will block Pages that share fake news from advertising on Facebook at all. This has been implemented since Monday. Facebook, in a blog post said that third party fact checkers will be banned from buying ads if Pages are repeatingly sharing stories that are found to be untrue. The company did not mention or clarify just how many times is enough to put a ban on the page or how many false articles must a Page send before it is punished. A spokesperson of Facebook said that the company is not about to share this information because that will allow people to game the system.
One ray of hope for such Pages is that the ban is not permanent. The Pages will be re-allowed to advertize once they stop sharing fake and false news. Since last fall, Facebook has been on a mission to track down false news. This is because many users believe in the fake news and the one of the outcomes is the result of the U.S. presidential election. Fake news impacted the U.S. presidential election. Some of Facebook’s efforts have also been towards killing the business of those behind the game of spreading false news, thus punishing the pages or the publishers who are sharing such news. Facebook has already placed a ban on publishers who promote links or stories that are deemed false be third party fact checkers.
