Facebook is launching a section named “Trending News” on their mobile app. The section will contain the latest relevant news that a reader would want, all with their own links to the original article. The news regarding the Trending News section was revealed earlier in spring when Facebook officials stated news was swiftly becoming an important part of Facebook feeds. The section keeps a track of the news items and latest trends that are circling the massive social media platform and present it all in a tidy manner to the user, all under one section. The redesigned Trending News section is currently being launched across both Android and iOS devices, only in the U.S. for now.
Redesign on Trending News
Facebook earlier made an announcement in May, regarding their plans to redesign the Trending Topics section. The newer design would incorporate features that would make is easier for users to see how a topic is being covered across multiple publications, along with the opinions of both friends and public figures. According to Facebook, clicking on the Trending Topics link will take a user into a plethora of stories that the user can swipe through horizontally.
Improving User Engagement
The core strategy by Facebook is to aim towards user engagement. The publications on the Trending Topics section will be generated through the overall web of articles and publishers, as well as the articles that are linking towards the main story.
